How To Avoid Brassy Hair During Quarantine

Things are really strange right now, but brassy hair doesn’t need to contribute to the weirdness. We are coming up on one month of quarantine, and it’s just a really weird season we are in. Like most of you, my next hair appointment got cancelled due to salons being closed. I wanted to share the products I use in between appointments that keeps brassy hair at bay. I’m also including my two favorite hair masks that keep my hair feeling soft and healthy.

Let’s start with the most annoying thing – the brassiness you get if you don’t use the right products as a blonde. Warm blonde is beautiful, don’t get me wrong. But brassy blonde is another story. I wash my hair about 1-2 times a week, so I tend to use purple shampoo for every wash. If you wash you hair more than that, use it every other wash. My favorite purple shampoo & conditioner is Matrix Total Results Brass Off. I have tried every purple shampoo under the sun, and I ALWAYS come back to this one. The pigmentation is amazing, and it’s a fairly reasonable price. Purple shampoo is the most important step in how to avoid brassy hair.

It’s inevitable that your hair will start to turn warm/brassy even if you use purple shampoo religiously. In times like this, when going to the salon for a tone in between appointments isn’t an option, I always always reach for the Pravana Perfect Blonde Toning Masque. I use this at the first sight of yellowish brassy hair, and every time I am amazed at how well it works. I use it in the shower after I shampoo. I apply it to wet hair, let it sit five minutes, then wash it out.

Every other week or so, I do a really good quality mask on my hair. I switch between the Wella Fusionplex Mask and Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3. Wella is more of a quick mask you can do while showering. Olaplex is more intense, and I like to sleep in it, then wash it out in the shower in the morning. Both are great for keeping my hair feeling smooth and healthy. You can read all about my love for Olaplex here.

There really is no secret to how to avoid brassy hair. With some good products and diligence, you’ll be well on your way to bright blonde locks.
