MID SIZE SHORTS: WHAT PAIRS I’M LOVING

I spent an ungodly amount of time reading reviews on mid size shorts this spring. I’ve never been a big shorts person, but this year I wanted branch out and give it a go. My legs have always been a “problem area” for me, and I have to say I’m really starting to turn a corner on them. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve been working really hard on being positive about my body and accepting that I have strong, muscular legs. Sure, they could use some toning up, but gone are the days that I wear jeans in 100 degree heat because I feel self conscience. It feels really good to write that and have it be 100% true.

I also want to say that while trying on tons of shorts, I did learn something else. Size means NOTHING when it comes to clothing. I wear a size 29 or 30 in Madewell jeans, and I had to size up two full sizes in shorts to even be able to button them and feel good in them. Don’t let size get you down or define you. Buy what fits you and don’t even fret about that number on the tag!

This first pair is from Target and was a total steal. They are under $20 and I ended up sizing up in these too. I’m wearing an XXL and they are a bit loose on me, which is perfect because the tie waist makes them totally adjustable. I love the nice big front pockets and the fact that they are super high waisted. I paired it with an Abercrombie bodysuit and my go-to Target sandals.

I couldn’t talk about shorts in 2020 and not include a pair of black biker shorts. These are Aerie and currently sold out. Like not even on their website anymore sold out, so I linked some similar options. I love pairing these with an oversized top like the Aerie Sunday Soft Quarter Zip. So comfortable and perfect for a summer road trip!

I saved the best for last. These denim shorts are the freaking bees knees. They are SO good. I love how they hold you in at the stomach, but they are not constricting at all. I love to unroll them for a little more length since I’m not into super short shorts. They look great with a tucked in tank or with something like this babydoll top from American Eagle.

After trying on over 15 pairs, only three truly worked for me. And that’s fine, it’s just a testament to how every single body is different and that we can’t trust the number on the tag. I will be living in these shorts all summer long!
